THE RAW TAPES #02: DJ breakfast

It all started at Christianshavn back in 1994 at a local youth club party, when Thomas Nielsen realized he had to become DJ Breakfast. The dream materialized the following year, and he quickly got involved with the scene, picking up a slot on one of Copenhagen's few pirate radio stations at the time, Christiania Radio - Junglefever FM. Soon DJing at the Jungle Fever parties as well, Breakfast was on his way to set his mark on Danish Drum and Bass.

Unfortunately, Breakfast had to leave it all behind in 1997 due to personal reasons and it would take nearly ten years before he re-appeared. Like a decade before, it was a DnB party that would re-ignite the good ol' spark. Now 10 years older and more determined, Breakfast is back to keep Drum & Bass on the map in Denmark.

2008 proved to be a great year for the revived Breakfast, who headlined alongside some of the worlds finest: Simon Bassline Smith, DJ Slipmatt, Zero Tolerance, Nicky Blackmarket, Goldie ... to name just a few. He also stepped into the role as promoter in cooperation with the Danish Jungle Godfather, DJ Nis, under the Jungle Fever banner. In 2009, Breakfast launched his own Thursdays radio show at Christiania Radio, airing all types of electronic music from DnB to New Age Acid House and everything in between. He performed ‘longside both legends and rising stars, including Lomax, MC GQ, Slipmatt, Sigma, Soulmatic. And he headed outside Copenhagen for his first bookings beyond the Danish capitol.

DJ Breakfast is thus one of the main contributors to the revival of DnB in Denmark in recent years. As a promoter/DJ at Culture Box, he is now working closely with one of Denmark's leading clubs to provide Copenhagen with a little taste of the London sound. Breakfast is still hosting his weekly radio show, promoting various events across the country, while holding down an increasingly busy DJ schedule. 2010 is set to be the biggest year to date for DJ Breakfast - and maybe also for the neo-DnB scene in Denmark?

This is the second in our series of RAW Tapes. It's a full-on full English from DJ Breakfast. Massive, heavy, good for your arteries. Enjoy!
