THE RAW TAPES #04: COPYFLEX

Copyflex aka. Åsmund Boye Kverneland hails from Stavanger, the oil capital of Norway. In 1997 he decided to pack a truckload of music gear and move to Copenhagen. He worked as a stockbroker for 2 years, then for a local financial- scandals celebrity, Klaus Riskjær, all the while slowly getting a foothold on the city's music scene.

In 2000, Copyflex made his first appearances on the music scene as a live musician, playing homemade machines, broken amps, feedbackloops and synths. He became a leading figure of the Copenhagen experimental and noise music scene. In 2001, he met the Danish godfather of Techno, Bjørn Svin, who became a main collaborator and turned him on to rhythmical music. While touring Europe in 2002-04 they released several tracks under different pseudonyms such as Contradition Boys, Ezo&Flex and Europussy.

Because his live gear broke down one hour before a live set in 2005, Copyflex tried spinning records, which both he and the crowd loved - and Copyflex is still doing exactly that. Due to his capacity to combine party music (Electro, Baile Funk, Kuduro, Fidget House, etc) with creative experiments, homemade edits and mashups, Copyflex is one of the most popular DJs in Copenhagen. His popularity derives partly from a lively stage appearance with Mpc1000 samplers, flaming hairspray, confetti bombs or champagne fountains - all carefully selected for the right occasion.

In addition to his solo performances, Copyflex is part of a number of music partnerships such as the slow-rave duo Copyfokking (with Jens Fokking Skovgaard); he has also joined the talented dancer & composer Maia Hauser in making the filmic out-there duo Copyhauser; Copyflex is part of the Cumbia crew Copa Doble Systema; and recently, Copyflex, Copyfokking and Copyhauser have entered onboard the Copenhagen/NYC-based collective and label Art Rebels.
