ROOTSMAN HI-FI

This already legendary DJ collective was established in 1999 and today it consists of the two original founding members, Ras Money and Papa Marni. With a mutual interest in Jamaican music, and in particular heavy 70s Roots, Rootsman Hi-Fi soon became a key ingredient in Copenhagen’s budding Reggae scene around the turn of the millennium. Rub’a’Dub Sundays and Café Saxon’s were key bases for Rootsman Hi-Fi who gradually began introducing new Reggae into their sets.
Since, Ras Money has become one of the pioneers of Dancehall in Denmark. Papa Marni’s preference towards 60s Ska, Rocksteady and original Skinhead Reggae led him to found the DJ crew Sweet Soul Rocking. Ras and Marni’s common ground continues to be heavy Roots Reggae and its modern sibling, UK Roots. It is in particular these two genres that created the foundation for Dub – and therefore also, in extension, Dubstep.
When opening the Bass Arena at RAW 2011, Rootsman Hi-Fi will deliver a lesson in the history of Dub. We could make no better local choice for a crew to warm up the valves with the heaviest of sounds. Big!
