Hopeton Brown, born 1960, is a true originator, forward-thinking innovator and living legend – indeed a Kingston King of Dub. He was the protégé of King Tubby and the producer of innumerable Reggae and Dub classics from Barrington Levy, Linval Thompson, Jah Thomas and many more. He’s been with Studio One, Greensleves and Tuff Gong, producing deep magic for more than three decades. And he’s met space invaders, rid the world of vampires, fought zombies, encountered Pac-Man and won the World Cup. Oh yes.
In 2010, Scientist returned with his Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space on Bristol-based imprint Tectonic Recordings, building a bridge between traditional Dub and new Dubstep, shooting a rocket of vibe into deep space. Scientist will test the sound system valves of the humongous Valve Sound System to their limit with waves of electronic heat from across the waters.
